Faith-based communities
Churches are welcome to hold services until end of November
We are planning a number of activities during the week of November 13th-19th, a week chosen by the international community to raise awareness around the prevention of child abuse. On Friday 13th November, we will be holding Forget-me-knot Day, a day on which we are calling on all Australians to unite in support of the more than 2 million adult Australians surviving child abuse. A number of churches, synagogues and other faith-based communities will be holding services through to the end of November in honour of adult survivors. These services will be focussed on preventing child abuse and supporting adult survivors.

If you are a member of a faith-based community or know someone who is, please approach the community and ask them to consider holding a service. We have developed some information which can be easily downloaded as a guide. This includes background material, a number of personal stories generously provided as well as a set of intercessory prayers, prepared especially for this occasion by Heather Robinson and Andrew Collis (South Sydney Uniting Church, Waterloo NSW). The prayers speak in 4 voices: Grieving, Confessing, Beseeching and Hoping. This material is intended as a guide and may be used in part or whole on the day.

To ensure that as many people participate as possible we are asking participating faith-based communities to register all the necessary details about their service on our website. These details about planned services will allow people around Australia to find a service they might wish to attend. If you cannot find a service which is accessible to you and are part of a faith-based community please do consider suggesting your community holds one.
